The Asheville Community Theatre “ACT” has just finished casting for “Guys and Dolls” and Frank will be playing Bennie Southstreet, a member of the comic trio of gamblers. The show opens on September 23rd and runs for three weekends. Performances are held Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday afternoons.
Asheville’s live theater performances can be the highlight of your weekend travel. The theater scene is vibrant with performances ranging from dramatic works like “To Kill A Mockingbird” or musical extravaganzas such as “Guys and Dolls.” There is something for everyone.
The North Carolina Stage Company
“NCSTAGE” will be performing “Angels in America” in October and is currently holding auditions for “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” that will open on August 24th.
Two new theaters have opened in Asheville during the last 6 months. The Altamont Theater, a 120-seat black box theater opened in downtown Asheville on Church Street. The Magnetic Fields recently opened in the booming River Arts District. Another great way to spend a summer evening of outdoor theater could be attending a performance of Shakespeare by The Montford Park Players in Montford Park.
No matter what your theater tastes may be, you can find great performances within a mile of the 1889 WhiteGate Inn
. Most theaters are within walking distance of the inn.
In 2013 construction will begin on a world-class facility, The Asheville Center for the Performing Arts
, that will be the venue for travelling Broadway shows and the home of the Asheville Symphony. It will also provide rehearsal and performance space
for local performing groups. We are excited that this new state of the art performance hall will be a short walk from our Asheville NC inn.
We hope to see you at the WhiteGate Inn in September when Frank takes the stage as Bernie Southstreet in “Guys and Dolls.”
