by Ralph Waldo Emerson
The sense of the world is short,
Long and various the report,
To love and be beloved;
Men and gods have not outlearned it,
And how oft soe'er they've turned it,
'Tis not to be improved.

Decorated in a warm camel with rich red accents the Ralph Waldo Emerson Suite, located in the WhiteGate Carriage House, charms you the moment you enter. The centerpiece of this elegant suite is its king size canopy bed, a replica of George Vanderbilt's bed from the Biltmore Collection. Savor its luxurious look and feel, then kick off your shoes and crawl beneath the covers. An 18-foot vaulted ceiling soars above a stacked stone fireplace, adding elegance to this statuesque suite. Flip the switch on the gas logs and cuddle in the cozy glow with your companion. Then step outside on the suite's rocking chair porch and take in the front row view of downtown Asheville twinkling against the backdrop of the western mountains.
This suite, with its old English feel and old world elegance, maintains all manner of modern amenities from wireless Internet to a 40” HDLCD flat screen TV with DVD player and CD player. Soak your cares away in the suite's two-person Jacuzzi, before finishing with a separate shower with body sprays. Refreshed and reinvigorated, take the five-minute walk to downtown Asheville, or hold your companion's hand as you stroll the 1889 WhiteGate Inn's award-winning gardens and philosophize about the finer things.
